Eat Healthy, Eat The Right Way

Image
I don’t believe in dieting. If you learn to eat the foods that cause your body to burn your fat instead of eating food that adds fat to your body, your body fat will slowly disappear over time. No dieting is necessary. Eat the right foods, stop drinking calories, and increase your activity and you will start to shrink. I found a great article I want to share with you. I added a few comments along the way. These are the same beliefs I have and I write about in all my blogs. The chef who wrote this is a typical full-time worker who squeezes in family time and a busy work schedule. The whole idea of 5 or 6 small meals a day is not a new concept. In some parts of the world, this is the way they eat every day. But because this country began as a country of mostly Europeans, we adopted their ways and in part we still do. The three heavy meals per day really became popular as the population became more industrialized. As more and more of the population worked in factories and other types of p

What To Drink If You Want To Lose Weight

Image
It’s boring, but everything you read today will tell you the best thing for you when you’re trying to lose weight: water, 64 oz. a day.  If you think water is too boring you have problems. Okay, I know you’re rolling your eyes but water is really good for you. And people are catching on. In the last 20 years, the sales of bottled water and designer water outsell soda. And if you’re reading financial papers Coke and Pepsi are worried. They’re scrambling to try to recapture share-of-market. That’s what all retail companies live or die by. There’s hope for those of us who need flavored water if we are to consume 64 oz. You can make flavored water at home. I like Basil, and orange water. It’s what I drink if I crave a salty snack, usually mid-afternoon. The taste kills the cravings and the drink looks beautiful in the glass so I feel like I’m treating myself. You can find recipes for making flavored water on the internet, pick the ones without calories. You can invent your own. My doctor p

Want To Lose Weight, Stop Eating Fast Food

I’m just going to come out and say it: The truth is, many of us get too many calories and not enough nutrients from fast food, candy, prepackaged goods, and sodas. Even if you’re not overweight, don’t be too quick to write off your junk-food habit as acceptable. Outwardly thin people aren’t necessarily healthy, as it’s possible to be skinny and in poor metabolic health, thanks to bad nutrition and lack of exercise. Many of us feel compelled to eat junk food (after all, it can taste so good), but is a diet high in fat, sugar, and salt worth the trade-off of the elevated risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancers? Kicking the junk-food habit — coupled with regular, heart-pumping exercise — will tip the scales of healthy living in your favor. Don’t know where to start? These simple guidelines will help you get over the hump in no time: Knowledge is power — and in the case of junk food, it can also be downright scary. While grocery aisles may seem fairly benign, t

Which Diet Is Right For You

Image
Trying to lose weight? If you’re a more-meat-than-potatoes kind of person, two new studies should encourage you. That’s because both concluded that a low-carbohydrate diet appears to be at least as effective as a low-fat diet, challenging the long-held notion that eating fat is what makes you fat. Ok, If you’ve been dieting for a while you probably know that all diets don’t work on everyone and it’s almost impossible to find one that works for you. I’ll explain, that whatever your choice as a meal plan may work for a short time but your body will adjust to the changes after a few weeks and you stop losing. So what’s the answer, Well this is not only true with diets but the same thing applies to exercise. Whatever changes you make in your routine your body will adjust to the change after a couple weeks. Don’t fight your body, go with it and change up what you're doing. You can trick your body. The body’s primary function is to keep you from starving. Sounds crazy, ah. Millions of ye

For You Exercise Fanatics

Image
My Wife and I are just like you, working out as much as time allows. So when she found this post on “Gizmodo.com” I thought I better post it. But before you read any further, some exercise is good for weight loss but too much can do the opposite. Exercise fanatics tend to eat more calories and can actually gain some weight in the short term.  A new study found that mouthwash cancels out some benefits of exercise. Most of us exercise to build muscle and burn more body fat, but exercise has many other benefits. Most important is the benefit to your heart. By doing regular exercise, you will lower your resting heart rate, and lower your blood pressure. Both of those benefits are said to add to longevity. So what does that have to do with mouthwash, you might ask. Well, mouthwash will kill the bacteria in your mouth, which you might think is a good thing, but some of the bacteria are good bacteria. When you exercise your body produces more “nitric oxide” in your saliva and because of exerc

How Many Calories Do I Burn Every Day?

Image
Do you know how many calories you burn every day? You should if you are trying to lose weight. You can’t calculate your energy balance without knowing your number. And you need to reach a negative energy balance to lose weight. That means burn more calories than you consume. You hear talk and read about the 1500 calorie diets and how you have to cut calories to lose weight but did you know that the more body fat you have the less calories you burn. And just cutting calories or eating less of the same foods won’t help you loss weight. We have to eat the foods that help your body burn more calories. How Many Calories Do I Burn Every Day? If you’re going to lose weight you must know how many calories your body burns. When researchers evaluate the total number of calories you burn, they refer to the number as your total energy expenditure or TEE. TEE is the daily total of these different factors: Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR).  Your resting metabolic rate is the amount of energy your body n

It Doesn't Cost Money To Lose Weight

Image
If you have never tried to lose weight and your friends tell you about the gym memberships and the cost of those diet pills or you should see a weight loss counselor, and all you can think of is the cost. Well, it’s true, you don’t have to spend money to lose weight. In fact, you might save some money by losing weight. We don’t realize it, but as you go through your work day, you can spend a lot of time snacking. You can consume a lot of junk food and it all costs money. Maybe you start your day at a coffee shop and you don’t just buy coffee. You get to work and there are pastries in the break room, so why not? I use to do it. I’d look for something to snack on every time I took a break. The average person adds 2 or 3 pounds a year, even if they're careful and don’t overeat. Between the ages of 30 and 40, I personally gained 40 pounds. I had changed jobs. I had a construction job, was outside all day, and was very active and left that for an office job, sitting all day and eating a

Weight Training For Seniors

Image
Although there is mounting evidence that muscle-strength training provides key health benefits, most middle-aged and older adults in the United States don’t engage in this type of exercise, according to new research. Less than one-quarter of adults over 45 meet the muscle-strengthening recommendations set by the Department of Health and Human Services, the study found. Researchers advised that strength is essential for promoting health and fitness and staying independent. Muscle-strengthening activities include yoga, sit-ups, push-ups, weights, elastic bands, and weight machines. In many cases, people use their own body weight for resistance during strength training. For the study, the researchers analyzed data from the 2011 U.S. Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a telephone health survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Participants answered questions about the type of physical activities they engage in and how often. They were also asked if
