What You Weigh Has Everything To Do With Your Health

Image
I know it’s a little early to think about New Year’s resolutions but if you can avoid some of those holiday pounds it won’t be so hard losing weight next year. The reason exercise resolutions rarely last is that they’re often unrealistic and unenjoyable. If you resolve to hit the gym every day, but you have a full-time job and hate working out in public, it’s probably not going to happen. So the answer is “to do the things you can do”. 10,000 Steps a Day Walking a certain number of steps each day is more realistic and easy to fit in! You don’t need to take all the steps at the same time, you don’t need special equipment, and you don’t even need to leave your house! Get yourself a fitness tracker or download a tracking app on your smartphone and make a game out of hitting those 10,000 steps per day. If you need to work up to it, start with 5,000 steps per day and add an extra 500 each week. Walking is an easy exercise program for anyone who doesn’t have time for the gym and doesn’t want

Post Thanksgiving

I know all about eating too much at those family gathering. In this case we are talking about Thanksgiving. Around my house or at anyone’s house that I know there is two parts to the big feast. First we eat a huge dinner, sometimes three kinds of meat, two different types of dressing, two types of cranberries, several types of potatoes, and several different vegetables. The idea is that no one, no matter how fuzzy, will go way hungry. There is always something for everyone in unlimited quantities. Than comes the second part, which usually is about one hour later, “dessert”. This is what everyone has been waiting for. If it’s a big gathering like 10 or 12 or more the whole table will be filled with pies, cakes, chocolate candies, brownies, lemon squares, and other ethnic tricks that we only see once or twice a year. These are times that no one should miss, even if your on a diet. The really bad part of the Holidays is that you might have to eat this meal more than once. We all have larg

I Eat 5 Meals A Day To Lose Weight

Image
I had some email requests to resend this post, so hear goes. How can I lose weight like that? The whole idea is to control blood sugar levels and avoid food cravings. You will still be eating less calories than you do now and you’ll be eating healthier. Yes, today anyone preaching weight loss will tell you to eat every 2 to 3 hours to avoid cravings. It’s cravings that cause you to “impulse eat” and eat the wrong things. That’s harder then it sounds if you work all day. If you have a weight problem or maybe too much body fat, your probably overeating when you do eat. There’s a great article below, written by a working mom who happens to be a Chef and I already know what your going to say. Well, a Chef can throw a meal together in minutes, it takes me forever. If you have a weight problem your doing it wrong. You’re not eating often enough, your eating the wrong foods and when your eating a meal, your eating too much. When I first started to eat frequent meals, I was eating 6 meals a da

Which Is Worse For Your Diet, Fat Or sugar?

Image
In case you are in a rush, here’s the bottom line right at the top: A healthful diet is high NEITHER in added sugar, nor saturated fat. Really. We have been hearing a lot of noise about sugar in our diets, and frankly, a lot of it is sugarcoating history. We have also been hearing a lot of noise about fat in our diets, and most of that is just plain fatuous. Hadn’t you gotten that memo? Of course you had! Everybody has. There is prominent advice to limit sugar intake in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans all the way back to the very first such report in 1980. We are never going to get healthy, but will surely get dizzy from going in circles, if every argument about the harms of sugar comes with an attempt to exonerate saturated fat or vice versa. The reality is that on the basis of science, sense, and global consensus, a diet good for the health of people and planet alike is high in neither added sugar nor saturated fat. Rather, across research methods, cultures, populations, and g

Weight Loss Is About What You Eat

Many dieters fail and why you might ask. It’s because they don’t understand how the body works. The myth is that all you have to do is eat less. And that might work for the short term but the weight will come back. All food won’t burn body fat. You want to eat the right stuff to burn body fat. I’m living proof that it works even at my age. Exercise helps you to help the weight loss process go faster, but weight loss is 80% diet. Nutrition and weight loss go hand-in-hand, and it pretty much comes down to chemistry and math. Intake too much energy (calories), weight is gained while creating a caloric deficit stimulates weight loss. Everyone seems to be on the search for something quick and easy. Very Low-Calorie Diets (VLCDs) are popular but disregard possible health risks. Seems like a risky high dollar cost to shed unwanted pounds. I am a believer of eating “real” quality food to maintain a fit physique and at a cost saving. To start a healthy weight loss journey, review what you’re

Can Breakfast Help You Lose Weight?

Image
“Can Breakfast Help You Lose Weight” first appeared on the WebMD website. To eat breakfast or not to eat breakfast? That’s the big question if you’re trying to slim down. For years, diet and nutrition experts have said a morning meal is a wise idea. But after a University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) study showed that overweight breakfast eaters weren’t any more likely to slim down than those who skipped it, many were left wondering if they should bother, after all. “Yes, you should eat breakfast,” says Suzy Weems, PhD, a registered dietitian and professor of family and consumer sciences at Baylor University in Waco, TX. But that doesn’t mean you should dig into a stack of pancakes and a plate of bacon. The UAB study didn’t look at  what  people were eating. It didn’t look at how many calories they were getting, either. “You can’t have Twinkies and coffee and expect to slim down, or even maintain weight loss,” Weems says. “The food you choose matters.” That may be why other studies

Are You Eating The Right Way To Lose Weight?

All the exercise in the world won’t make up for a bad diet. Ranking in terms of importance, exercise is only about 20% of weight loss. Foods and drinks make up 80% of your weight loss. Yes, we have to cut calories to lose weight, but that doesn’t mean cutting back on food. A proper diet for losing body fat is listed below. You have to cut out animal fats that are in red meat and stop drinking calories. The exception to drinking calories are Protein Shakes. Even if you make your own shakes, protein powders will contain calories but you want to buy protein powder that contains “plant protein” and avoid “dairy protein”. Nutrition and weight loss go hand-in-hand, and it pretty much comes down to chemistry and math.
