The Eat-Clean Diet

Image
The Eating Clean Diet is relatively new and it's in book form if you're like to buy it. Basically, "Clean-Eating" is eating food as close as possible to its original form. You want the food to look like it came straight off the bush or tree. Straight from the butcher that cut that piece of meat right in front of your eyes. Now I know that's not easy to do today, especially if you live in the city. No frozen food, no canned food, no processed foods, or manufactured foods. You eat fresh, foods as close as possible to their natural state. This is very similar to the Caveman Diet or some call it the Stone Age Diet.  This author means eating foods -- like lean protein, good-for-you carbs and fats, fresh fruits, and vegetables -- six times a day in the right amounts. Do that, drink lots of water, and exercise regularly, and Reno says you’ll turn your sluggish metabolism into a fat-burning machine. I'm adding my own opinion, but this worked for me. I dropped about 15

Advice To Seniors

Image
I’ve received an email lately from seniors that don’t seem to think they can lose weight anymore. We can all lose weight at any age. We can all exercise at any age. You just need to start moving. Change what your eating and start walking more. Seniors have a couple of problems losing weight. First, as you get older you lose some of the good bacteria in your digestive system which means that more of your food is not being digested. It’s being stored as fat. Cut down portions as you get older.  Second and more important, I think, as we age and gain weight over time, we lose the ambition to be active. We have a few more aches and pains and instead of working through them, we tend to pamper them. Some people take a pill for any minor problem when all you might need is exercise. I'm not talking about a high-intensity aerobics class, I'm talking about more walking around and less sitting. Maybe that means to start the day with a walk after breakfast and another walk after lunch and a

The Best Snack Foods, Nuts, Apples, and Berries

Image
I found a great article about my favorite snack food. We all snacks to get us through the afternoon. Most of us go to the snack machine and find something like chips or candy when we should be eating nuts, apples, or berries. Bring your own snacks. This will prevent you from overdosing on salt or sugar. You can buy good snack food at the supermarket. If they have a bulk food section even better. If you're watching your weight better off staying away from foods with a label. Manufactured foods are made to taste good, not good for you. Because manufactured foods contain nuts or berries doesn't mean it good for you. Reviewed by Brunilda Nazario, MD Once viewed by some as food too high in calories to enjoy on a regular basis, nuts are getting new respect. Two recent studies have touted the benefits of nuts for blood sugar control. One, published in Diabetes Care, found that eating pistachio nuts daily may help people at risk of getting diabetes control their blood sugar. A second,

Lose Weight Naturally

Image
I wrote before about making a lifestyle change as a way to lose weight.  There has been much written about the Mediterranean Diet, it's not a real diet with set rules about your everyday meals. It's a lifestyle of eating the way Mediterranean people have been eating for centuries. On the front page of my website, I write about the Mediterranean lifestyle of eating in the diet section. When I gave up on diet plans you buy in packets at the grocery store. And decided I wasn't going to sweat the pounds off. I read a book on the Mediterranean Diet and it all started to make sense to me. Cutting back on the food I was eating, only made me hungry after an hour or so. I needed to change my eating habits totally. I stopped eating traditional meals, no more 3 meals a day. Now I was going to eat 6 times a day. So you might ask, how do I lose weight that way.? Good question. The idea is to only eat enough to stop the cravings. Of course, you have to eat real food, not snack food. For

About My Ebooks

Image
This is a little different post than I usually write. I want to thanks the hundreds of people who bought a copy of one of my ebooks. I’m not a professional writer, I just like to write and a friend of mine once told me if I’m going to write I have to write about a subject I love. A subject I can write about every day. A subject that I have personally experienced. I picked weight loss because I have A lifetime of experience. I started wrestling in school when I was 12 years old. I was in 8th grade when the high school coach came to my school and talked to us about joining the wrestling team. I was a big kid, better suited for football, but I want to do both football and wrestling. The coach would come to my school after classes and taught us how to wrestle. We learned the rules and some of the moves and the strategy. By the time I was a Sophomore I was put on the Varsity team. My best year was the Junior year when I when to State. That’s what we all competed for, just a chance to go to

Salt And Your Waistline

Image
The Connection Between Salt and Weight Read this post on found in my inbox. This will open your eyes. By  Matt McMillen  We know those food manufacturers put salt in everything and we thought it was just to add flavor, but is there a hidden reason behind the sodium push. If you read the labels companies even put sodium or salt in candy. What going on? They claim it's a preservative and they need it to give the food longer shelf life. But why is that so important. I read on some labels that the food is good until 2025. Is that really necessary to manufacture food that good for several years? Conventional wisdom has long held that salty foods boost our thirst and lead us to drink more  water . But can salt also lead us to eat more, as well? Researchers have begun to explore salt’s previously unknown role in  hunger  and  weight gain . Several recent studies shed light on why salt may encourage us to overeat. “Until now, we have always focused on the effect of salt on  blood pressure

Reasons To Take The Stairs

Image
“In order for man to succeed in life, God provided two means, education and physical activity. Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise can save it and preserve it.”  --Plato, 400 B.C. Need a good reason to take the stairs? Here are six of them. This post was first published on HealthDay. 1. Stair Climbing Burns More Calories Than Jogging Yes, it’s true: studies have shown that stair climbing, which is considered vigorous-intensity physical activity, burns more calories per minute than jogging. One company, StepJockey, which is funded by the United Kingdom Department of Health and has as its sole mission the goal of getting everyone to take the stairs whenever and wherever possible, notes that stair climbing uses 8 to 9 times more energy than sitting and about 7 times more energy than taking the elevator. As an added bonus, you burn calories not only on the way up but also while going down the stairs! It is estim

The Fasting Diet

Image
The Promise “Fast,” in this case, is not about speed. It’s about  fasting . This is a diet I heard about on WebMD and I think It’s worth reading. Check out their website “thefastdiet.co.uk”. They sell books but you can get enough free info at a bookstore to do this diet. This diet, which started in the U.K., slashes your calories so drastically 2 days a week that you’re basically fasting. That’s not safe for everyone, so you should check with your doctor if you’re considering trying it. The Fast Diet  says that you shouldn’t fast if you’re  pregnant  or underweight, or if you have a history of  eating disorders  or  diabetes , and that you should check with your doctor first if you take medication. The diet also isn’t recommended for kids, teens, frail seniors, or anyone who isn’t feeling well or has a fever. The basic concept behind  The Fast Diet  by Michael Mosley, MD, and Mimi Spencer is to eat normally for 5 days per week and eat very restricted calories on the other 2 days. Mosle

The Key To Losing Body Fat Is Your Diet

Image
We’re finding more and more that our body will do the healing if we eat the proper foods. For instance, on the Today Show this morning Dr. Oz was demonstrating how cancer grows in your body and that we all have these cancer cells but because some people aren’t getting a proper amount of certain foods, the cancer cells will grow and keep growing until we can detect them. Celery, onions, and Leeks will stop cancer cells from growing, but you need to eat them 5 times a week. Remember we all have these cells, we need to stop them before they are large enough to be detected. He also said that medicine has nothing that will do this. In other words, you have to depend on the food your eating to stay healthy. We too often think that our lifestyle doesn't matter, that medicine will keep us healthy, so why worry about it. Yes, medicine is making a lot of break-throughs but medicine if the truth is known is still trying to catch up. Civilization is far ahead of medicine. They are playing the

Losing Weight Is Hard But Not Complicated

Image
I re-blogged this post from a post on Wordpress. The author John Savill, writes about himself and how he won his battle with fat. I think this time of year we all could use an inspirational story. I’ve been guilty in the past of telling people that it’s not hard to lose weight but that’s actually incorrect. The reality is that it’s not COMPLICATED to lose weight but it absolutely is hard but lets take a step back. Before I start I’m not a doctor, I’m not a nutritionist, I’m not a personal trainer. In fact I’m completely unqualified   I don’t have a coach or a trainer. I have no one setting me a training plan or what to eat. I’ve always done what I think is logical. What I’m sharing here are my thoughts and what has worked for me. Nothing more, nothing less. Over the past 4 years there have been two occasions where I’ve lost weight. The first was 3 years ago after I completed my second IRONMAN and was starting to train for my third and decided I should shed some body fat so I had less w
