Reverse The Aging Process

Image
Do you know that things you do every day can cause you to look older than you really are? Pills and beauty creams are not the real answer. It’s all about what you eat and drink that ages you. You probably see people on the street that look really good and have all gray hair. You probably think, “Boy they look good for their age.” Those people might be older than you think. I saw a senior on TV being interviewed about his service in the Army during the Second World War. He was the oldest survivor of the D-Day invasion. I was listening to the interview and thought “This guy looks awful young to be in a war 70 years ago”. He looks and talks like he’s maybe 75 or 80. He looked good physically, he stood up during the entire interview and talked like a younger man. At the end of the interview, the Host congratulated the man on his One-Hundredth Birthday last week. That blew my mind. I only hope I can be in that kind of shape when I’m one hundred. I did a little research and found that the li

Take Your Stress Levels Down A Notch

Tight deadlines, bills, kids—whatever your source of stress, having too much of it may make it harder for you to drop unwanted pounds, especially from your middle.  And it's not just because you tend to reach for high-fat, high-calorie fare when stressed, though that's part. It's also due to the stress hormone cortisol, which may increase the amount of fat your body clings to and enlarge your fat cells. Higher cortisol levels have been linked to more visceral fat, or belly fat. Get At Least Seven Hours of Sleep Each Night Approximately 35% of Americans sleep less than seven hours a night. If you're one of them, here's one simple way to reduce your waistline: catch more Zs. People who regularly sleep less than seven hours per night are more likely to have higher average body mass indexes and develop obesity than those who sleep more.  What to Do When Anxiety Is Driving You to Overeat?  I recommend you take a walk. A 30-minute walk will help you focus on other things,

Straight Talk About My Battle With My Weight

I was always a chubby kid. Back in preschool, when I look back at photos, I was not thin. At age 16, I was still chubby. My last year of high school I had to loss 20 pounds for sports, but due to an injury I was on crutches for several months and I gained most of it back. When I was 22, I worked construction and lost my chubbiness. For the next 10 years I worked that job and stayed thin until I was injured. At this point, I weighted about 172 and I smoked, not good. I had to quit the job and quit smoking. After that I moved to Texas and bought a restaurant. Just a word about that, if you’re trying to loss weight don’t buy a restaurant. Then I wasn’t paying attention to my weight, and I gained about 40 pounds over about three years. A few more years past and we sold the restaurant. By that time, I knew I had to loss weight, I was up to 220 pounds. My wife and I got a membership to a big health club chain, and we both started to eat healthier. I did start to lose weight, but I had thes

Belly Fat Natually Increases With Age

As you get older, your body changes how it gains and loses weight. People experience a declining metabolic rate, or the number of calories the body needs to function normally. On top of that, menopause further complicates the metabolic process for some people. "If [cisgender women] gain weight after menopause, it's more likely to be in their bellies," Michael D. Jensen, MD, chair of the Mayo Clinic Obesity Specialty Council in Rochester, Md., told Health. In menopause, the production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone slows down. Lower estrogen levels may play a role in weight gain after menopause.2 Weight gain may also be caused by metabolism slowing down with age, less-healthful eating habits, and being less active. In addition, you lose muscle mass as you age, so you use fewer calories. You can't fight aging, but you can adopt lifestyle changes that keep your weight in check. It comes down to exercising more and eating a healthy diet rich in whole grains, f

Exercise Program For Beginners

Image
Everyone has a hard time starting an exercise program. But the process can be especially hard if you are overweight. These are just a few of the reasons that an overweight exerciser might struggle at the gym: Why Workouts Are Harder for Overweight People The equipment doesn’t fit. Some exercise equipment is not appropriate for larger bodies. Weight lifting machines, for example, may not accommodate a bigger body and that can make using the machine both uncomfortable and ineffective. Different movement dynamics. People who carry more weight move differently than people who have smaller frames. The center of gravity is different for an obese body and for that reason, taking some group exercise classes may be less comfortable. Overweight exercisers may have a hard time keeping up with the tempo of a fast-moving class, not because they aren’t coordinated but simply because it takes more time for them to move through the steps. Trainers aren’t qualified. An exercise program for an overweigh

Can Tea Help Me Lose Weight?

Image
Many hopeful dieters drink tea, especially green tea, to lose weight. So can this beverage help you slim down? Possibly. But there is no strong evidence to support many of the weight loss claims that are made on packages. And yet, you’ve probably heard of friends and family members who have lost weight by drinking green tea or taking green tea supplements. It is possible that the products have worked for some. Green tea provides caffeine that may help you to stay alert and active. As a result, you may burn more calories during the day. But it also might keep you up at night. Many weight loss experts promote the positive effects of a good night’s rest on healthy eating and exercise. Large studies that have investigated the weight loss benefits of green tea have not been able to confirm that drinking it will improve weight loss. However, if you replace a high-calorie coffee drink with plain tea, you may also be able to reduce your calorie intake and slim down. Health Benefits of Herbal

Can't Lose Weight, Don't Beat Yourself up

An earlier post was about heredity and how some weight conditions can be caused from your family genes, but I believe it’s more about your family history. The food you ate the first few years of life. We don’t really know how much a child is affected by his informative years. What if the foods or maybe the sugar or fats that you consumed during those informative years created a pattern and gave you the cravings you have today? The good news is that we can correct those cravings, change them and even ignore them. I don’t think food gets boring. If I think I could lose weight eating 1600 calories a day, then I would surf the INTERNET for foods I liked and foods that would work for me. I don’t eat out much. I use a crock pot to make a meal for that evening but before I eat dinner, I divide the meal, so I have enough for lunch the next day. And you might think you don’t have time in the morning, but you can prepare the dinner at night, put it in the fridge and then fill the crock pot in
