The Only Yogurt You Should Eat

Image
Did you know that almost ALL yogurts are flat out bad news for your waistline? "Light" yogurts, for instance, are absolutely terrible for you, and for more reasons that one. First, most "light" yogurts are loaded with artificial sweeteners and/or high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is one of the top 3 WORST ingredients you could ever consume. First, as it's name suggests, it's made of primarily fructose, a sugar that easily spills over to fat storage when consumed in sizable quantities. And artificial sweeteners are...well...artificial. Do you really want to put chemically altered, man-made ingredients that don't exist in nature into your body? Us either. Second, HFCS is made from genetically modified corn. Third, HFCS spikes blood sugar and insulin like almost no other food or ingredient.  Bad news all around. Bottom line, just because something is low calorie (i.e. "Light") doesn't make it a healthy choic

We need some exercise

Exercise is a big part of losing weight, but I don't mean you have to sweat it off. You can loss weight without any exercise just by maintaining a proper diet. But if you don't do some exercise half the weight you lose will be muscle. It happened to me, so if you want to look like a pear then don't exercise. But if you want to look like you did when you actually weighed 30 pounds less, then you want to do some upper body exercise besides walking. Generally, the oldest fat on your body is the fat thats the hardest to get rid of. But muscle will eat up fat, thats why people go on high-protein diets to lose weight. If you build enough muscle, the muscle will eat up the fat just to maintain. In another post I wrote that a stunt man that had the "perfect body" would cut back in the off-season but when he was getting back in shape for a movie he would eat protein and good fats to bulk-up for his role. If your going to build muscle you need to eat or have some fat so t

How To Stop Over-Eating

Did you know that most people fail to stick to their diet plans because of what I call “automatic eating”? That’s eating that seems to be outside your control, because it’s generated by the unconscious part of your mind. And what’s the main thing that stimulates this unconscious eating? STRESS. Here’s what happens in your body when you’re stressed: Your body makes WAY too much cortisol, the main stress hormone. Cortisol is helpful when you’re in a real fight- or-flight situation–but most of us make too much Cortisol ALL THE TIME. And guess what? Cortisol causes weight-gain (especially around the middle)–and it leads to many other SERIOUS health problems. To solve this problem, we need something that reduces stress and Cortisol levels. And, I’ve found it. I walk briskly or sometimes I use a stationary bike. You can use a treadmill. I do about 20 minutes and I can feel the difference in my body. Stress brought on by anger is different and don’t confuse them, the solutions are diffe

A Good Diet Is The Secret

I said before about stopping the way you eat and change. You’ve hear about the French and that the French have a diet that would put weight on any American, but their thin. The men and women of all ages in France are mostly thin. When we first looked at their diet we thought that the red wine they drank was the answer. These people eat out as much as we do, they didn’t even know what “low cal” meant until just recently. So how do they do it? Well first they walk more. City people don’t use cars that much, They walk everywhere. Also bike riding is more popular, gasoline has always been expensive in Europe and the people have learned to conserve. Conserving on food is something that France has done since World War II when food was scarce. So today their meal portions are smaller than ours and combine this with the increased amount of walking the French do and it’s much easier for them to control their weight. Now how does that help you? Well there are studies going on today that are dis

Planning meals will help you lose weight

Image
We talk about cutting back on food consumption in a previous post but we haven’t said how. So today I have some ideas. I plan my meals the day before. Actually I started planning to save money. I was planning a week at a time so I knew what to buy. Then I found that planning not only saved me money, but I had less food in the house and I ate less. Not really by design, kinda by accident. It might sound like a crazy idea. If you try it you’ll get it. I wasn’t going out as much. I ate at home more because I knew what was for dinner. The problem with going out to eat is you end up eat whatever your craving. Before I started planning I’d stop and eat on the way home. It was easier and I didn’t have to clean up. But I’d just get home and turn on the TV and pull out the snacks. Now I go home, make dinner, I stick to the plan. Eat dinner and clean up. Take care of any phone calls I need to return, do my email and finish up any paper work I need to do. By that time it's usually after

How much weight do you really need to lose?

The answer is different for all of us. Maybe you've been working on getting back to the weight you were at in high school or on your wedding day. But do you really need to go that low? Or can you weigh more than your ideal weight and still be healthy? O.K., that's a question everyone wants to know the answer to. Actually people lose weight for dozens of different reasons. Maybe you gained weight because you ate the way your family did, the way you grew up eating and that can be the beginning of your overweight problem. But as you get older you see the other school kids and the clothes they wear and you naturally want to fit in, and so your battle with weight begins. Others gain weight later in life, because of their occupation or maybe they've become overworked and depressed or maybe they've done well in life and food and drink is the reward. My neighbor has a sales job traveling, he's in and out of airports two and three times a week. Eating restaurant food ever
