Do Diets Really Work?

Image
Verywell.com has some good articles about fitness and diet. I often read their posts and even reblog some of the material. This one is worth the read. From VeryWell.com Men and women have struggled for years, searching endlessly for that magic diet pill to reverse all the bad diet and lifestyle decisions they’ve made in the past. Diet pills come in all shapes, sizes, and colors with different fantasies attached to each one. They range from celebrity-endorsed campaigns to more science-based programs that guarantee success. However, the major question still persists as to whether or not all this diet talk is simply a lie. Don't Fall for Diet Myths and Illusions People are sick and tired of being sick and tired. To make matters worse, a majority of the confusion about diet myths stems from the fitness and nutrition experts, who cannot seem to agree on anything diet related. The Importance of Behavioral Change I would like to break here and mention that I’m no...

There's A New Tread In the World Of Weight Loss

Image
It's becoming harder to eat organic when so much of the supermarket produce comes from other countries. So a new trend is to eat more seafood which now includes the plant food grown in the ocean. Seaweed will soon be coming to your neighborhood grocery if not already. And besides seaweed, insects, insects like ants are very clean eating and a great source of protein and other vitamins and minerals. They are as Organic as it gets.  This new trend isn't that new. Other countries have been eating things like ants and grasshoppers for decades. I remember in the 1950's eating chocolate covered ants and fried grasshoppers and I liked them. And usually, kids don't like anything. What's driven this in the U.S. is that people are avoiding processed foods and are looking for a substitute. The ants and grasshoppers are a great snack food and you can find them in specialty stores but there expensive. Personally, I'd like to see foods like this become common place and t...

About My E-books

Image
I understand that many of us don’t like reading “how-to” books. They tend to be boring and it’s easier to find a video on YouTube or just “google it”. But there’s an upside to books. First, I can skim through and see if this book will answer all my questions and if it can, is it worth the money? That is where the e-book has the advantage. E-books are very reasonable compared to a printed book and you get the same content. So it all comes down to trusting the author. This is one reason why I blog. I want the reader who reads my blog posts to get to know and trust the material I post. From that point on the reader can make the decision to trust the information in my posts or not. For those who have a weight problem or just too much fat and can’t lose it, this will affect your health as you get older. If you’ve read some of my posts you probably have read about belly fat being the worst type of body fat. Everyone should take their health condition serious. I see people on the str...

Reasons To Love The Mediterranean Diet

Image
It's not a weight-loss plan, it's the way the Mediterranean people have been eating for thousands of years. Back in the 1980's the medical community became very interested in the Mediterranean people. They had less health problems than other Europeans, Americans, and the rest of the Western World.  At first, they thought it might be the wine they drink every day. Like the French, they have far less cases of cancer and heart disease. So if it's not the red wine what is causing the difference. Now we know it's the diet, that makes the difference. Yes, red wine is good for your blood but it's the whole diet that gives them the good health they enjoy. Less meat and more fruit and vegetables. Seafood is a big part of their diet.  There’s no calories to count or cutting out major food groups. You swap the bad fats for heart-healthy fats like olive oil. You’ll eat fish and poultry instead of red meat. And eat fruit instead of fancy desserts. You’ll eat more ve...

I Exercise But I Can't Lose Weight

Image
You do the same moves over and over. When you first begin exercising, it can be tough to find an activity you love. Once you do, you want to keep at it, which is great -- but you also need to switch it up. “Your body adapts quickly, sometimes in just a matter of a week, to whatever exercise you’re doing,” says Janice Clark, a personal trainer in Los Angeles. “Once that happens, your body doesn’t have to work as hard, and you burn fewer calories even if you do the same thing at the same intensity.” The solution: First, make sure you have a well-rounded fitness program that includes aerobic exercise, resistance training, and stretching. By doing these three things, you’ll naturally give your body variety. Then, every week to 4 weeks, change one thing about your workouts. For example, ride the stationary bike instead of running on the treadmill. Push yourself a bit more in one of your cardio workouts, or try a new strength exercise. You talk with friends the entire time. A wo...

Losing Weight Isn't The Same For Everyone

Image
Most of us that have or had a problem with belly fat can appreciate this post. Unfortunately, when you gain excess body fat you end up with some health problems. Most of us just ignore those little problems because the doctor wasn't really concerned and he just gives you the same talk about losing some weight. But because you might have to take pills to control your blood pressure or because your cholesterol is too high, the doctor is giving you pills to control your condition and your vitals get back to that normal range so no big deal, right? Wrong. Now because your starting to look sloppy, your clothes don't fit very well and being overweight is affecting your job performance, you want to lose some weight. Now it's going to be a little harder. Your medications can affect weight loss. Exercise is going to be difficult and eating healthy means giving up all the foods you love. These are the reasons middle age people find it harder to lose weight. Most of us don't ...

Stay In Shape With Body Weight Exercise

Image
Using the weight of your own body to create resistance was one of the earliest forms of strength training. It's easy to learn, effective, and you can do it just about anywhere. Although you can get quite inventive, the following exercises are the primary bodyweight exercises and how to do them. It's a somewhat fine distinction, but the core resistance bodyweight exercises are not the same as calisthenics, stretching, plyometrics or most yoga exercises (in my opinion anyway), although they may include elements of all these disciplines. The exercises form the core of any bodyweight workout program. Many others are variations and trivial modifications. Push-ups The push-up is a classic bodyweight exercise, and it demonstrates quite clearly the principle of bodyweight resistance training. Lie face down on the floor, preferably on a firm carpet or mat or rubber surface, with feet together. Place your hands on the floor at shoulder level, facing forward. Keep a slight bu...
