Health Risks Of Being Overweight

I wanted to write about health today because in my area the virus threat is back again. I live in a small gated area with only about 9 dozen homes and 8 people that I know of have covid. Some of the social gatherings have been canceled. Because this is a 55+ community we tend to be a little nervous about covid.

One of the health risks that seniors have is being overweight. When a person is young, under 40, you might think those extra pounds don't bother you, that being a little heavy isn't a big deal. As you get older, over 40, then you notice your body changing. You might be seeing your doctor more often. Maybe your blood pressure is elevated. Your doctor may have suggested that you lose weight. Maybe he put you on a diet. Maybe the doctor wants you to get more exercise.

All the symptoms you have today are just a sign of the bigger problems you will have in the future. All the small health problems you have today are putting stress on your immune system making it weaker and weaker as you age. This condition is not part of growing old. The age of your body has nothing to do with calendar years. We age our own bodies when we don't maintain them.

Your doctor might be able to give you a few pointers to help you take better care of your body, but it's up to you. They don't teach us in school the importance of good health and how to stay healthy. And in some cases, your parents don't know that much about staying healthy either. If you remember when you were 21 and very healthy with lots of energy, that was probably when you were at your perfect weight. Generally, adult men start to gain weight after they marry or once they're in their 30s. That's the mistake we all make. Gaining extra weight as an adult put extra stress on your organs.

Back when you were 21, you were fully grown on the outside, and maybe 2 or 3 years later your organs were fully developed. At that time whatever you weigh is your perfect weight. Gain after you reach that perfect weight puts a strain on those organs. Your heart takes the most punishment. It has to pump blood to every cell in your body. All body mass, organs, muscle, bone, or fat is made up of cells and they all need blood. It's the supply of blood that keeps your cells alive.

When excess stress is put on your organs your organs will not be able to function at peak performance. Your immune system is one essential function your body has, and it can't properly protect your body if it's under stress. Hence, we have weakened our resistance to viruses, colds, flu, and diseases in general. Learn how to keep your body healthy.
