Diet Mistakes
We all make mistakes when we first attempt to lose weight. I think the biggest mistake we make is not realizing we need to lose body fat not weight. We obsess over the numbers on the scale and lose site of what should be the real goal,"to lose belly fat". I could have saved myself a boat load of money if I analyzed my weight problem before I dove in and just start to cut calories. I didn't know what I was doing and I'd skip meals and starve myself, thinking I would lose weight and all I accomplished was losing muscle tissue and some pounds that came back in a few weeks.
When you rely on crash diets, you are training your body to burn calories more slowly.
Skipping breakfast makes you hungry the rest of the day, so you snack more and eat more for lunch. You also never started to burn any calories until later in the day. It makes a difference because your body will only burn so many calories per hours and by not eating breakfast you could be losing 3 or 4 hours of calorie burning. Also people who skip breakfast will usually consume more calories per day than people who eat breakfast. Why, if you wait to eat until you have food cravings, you end up eating anything in site and that will only produce more food cravings and hour or so later and this cycle will continue all day, all because you start out the day without any protein.
Another mistake is losing track of snacks, your eating too many calories from snack food because you lose track of your many snacks during the day.
Not snacking at all is not good, you should have a yogurt cup or handful of nuts for a snack between meals. You want to eat something every 3 hours to keep from overeating at meals.
Loading up on low-fat, not good, low-fat doesn’t mean low-calorie. For example, candy is low-fat but high in calories and bad for your diet. Low-fat bakery goods is another example. It’s not good for your diet.
Sipping too many calories, When your trying to lose weight it’s best to drink things without calories. not low-calorie, but no-calorie. Plain water is the best thing for someone on a diet.
No Dairy, if you need the calcium stick to non-fat dairy.
Avoid the drive thru’s, there's nothing there for you.
Setting unrealistic goals, even if you want to lose 5 pounds in one week, you can probably do it by starving, but the weight will come right back. 1 or 2 pounds a week is the best way, when you want to lose weight, you really want to lose fat. When you lose the fat you will weigh less. Your goal should be to lose inches around your waist. I should add one more statement, "don't bother to spot reduce, it doesn't work". You want to find a permanent diet like the Mediterranean diet or the Dash diet that you can follow indefinitely.
When you eat healthy you'll lose fat and when you lose fat you'll lose weight. Your clothes will fit better, you'll feel better, you'll be happier, and you'll have more confidence in yourself.
