Can Eating Fewer Calories Extend Your Life?

Image
A calorie-restricted diet helps monkeys live longer, healthier lives, a new study suggests. That's what science tells us and it might be true, but I know from experience that you will lead a healthier life. And I think that leading a healthy life right to the end is more important than worrying about how more years you have left. The content of the diet made a difference, too, the study authors explained in a university news release. NIA monkeys were fed a "natural" diet. Monkeys at UW-Madison had a diet that included processed foods with a higher sugar content. The UW-Madison monkeys were heavier than the NIA monkeys. The researchers also noted that female monkeys seemed to be less vulnerable to the bad effects of excess fat than males. The study teams believe this finding is likely similar in humans. However, studies in animals often fail to produce similar results in humans. This post is from HealthDay and where I believe the information is valuable to humans, I

What Is The Mediterranean Diet?

Image
The Mediterranean diet is based on the traditional foods eaten by people living in the Mediterranean region, especially Greece. It's loaded with healthy foods and research findings suggest following this diet may help reduce some of the risk factors for heart disease.  According to the Oldways Preservation & Exchange Trust, the Mediterranean diet was introduced in 1993 by Oldways, Harvard School of Public Health and the World Health Organization.  The diet includes: Olives and olive oil Whole grains, mostly in bread and cereal rather than pasta Very little red meat Fish and seafood Some cheese, but less milk Lots of vegetables and fruit Plenty of legumes and nuts A little red wine The Mediterranean diet is high in fiber and antioxidants from vegetables, legumes and nuts, far greater than the typical Western diet, and low in saturated fat. Very little red meat is eaten in this region, and milk consumption is limited as well, except for some cheese and yogurt

The Key To Losing Body Fat Is Your Diet

We’re finding more and more that our body will do the healing if we eat the proper foods. For instance, on the Today Show this morning Dr. Oz was demonstrating how cancer grows in your body and that we all have these cancer cells but because some people aren’t getting a proper amount of certain foods, the cancer cells will grow and keep growing until we can detect them. Celery, onions, and Leeks will stop cancer cells from growing, but you need to eat them 5 times a week. Remember we all have these cells, we need to stop them before they are large enough to be detected. He also said that medicine has nothing that will do this. In other words, you have to depend on the food your eating to stay healthy. We too often think that our lifestyle doesn't matter, that medicine will keep us healthy, so why worry about it. Yes, medicine is making a lot of break-throughs but medicine if the truth is known is still trying to catch up. Civilization is far ahead of medicine. They are playing th

Improve Your Diet Now

Image
I know changing old, bad dietary habits is tough, and it takes a long time for new eating habits to become permanent. But don't make it too complicated. No matter how bad your diet is right now - here are five easy things you can do right now to improve the way you eat. Your diet is the only reason for your extra body fat. By eating all-natural foods your body will burn that extra fat. 1 Add an Extra Vegetable to Your Next Meal I don't care if your next meal is breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can improve your diet instantly by eating an extra vegetable. Pick one that's green or brightly colored for maximum nutritional benefit. Steam some broccoli to go with your sandwich at lunch, and make two vegetable sides for dinner instead of one. Or eat a bigger salad. This even works for breakfast -- add spinach to your scrambled eggs or make a green smoothie. 2 Eat Fresh Fruit Next time you're in line at the lunch counter, grab an apple or pear instead of a

If you shed pounds too fast, you’ll lose muscle, bone, and water instead of fat. Aim to lose 1-2 pounds per week, and avoid fad diets or products that make promises that sound too good to be true. It’s best to base your weight loss on changes you can stick with over time. For faster results, you’ll need to work with a doctor, to make sure that you stay healthy and get the nutrients that you need. To reduce the time it takes to lose fat you have to stop eating and drinking whatever your doing now and start eating and drinking the things that will help you lose weight. Which means you might not like what you have to eat, but it's healthy nutritional food that gives your body energy for all bodily functions. If your body doesn't get enough nutrition every day it has to cut out some bodily functions t
