Guy’s After Thanksgiving

This is the time when most of us realize that we have an overeating problem. Last thursday we stuffed ourselves with all our favorite foods and drank all we could possibly hold, then we suffered all friday and now on saturday we’re promising ourselves that we’ll never do that again. Even if you didn’t go that far, you know what I mean, we’ve all been there. But of course it’s several weeks until January, there will be many parties and many dinners out before the season is over. Personally I always gain weight during the Holiday. I use to gain about 10 pounds during each holiday season and spend the next 6 months trying to lose it. No more, I don’t go through that any more. Yes, I gain a pound or two but that’s all. I learned not to make myself uncomfortable eating, I try everything so as to not offend anyone, but now I eat like my skinny little cousin. Guys like me could take a lesson from skinny women. They stay skinny because they practice portion control. Some girls don’t even know

Being overweight causes health problems

You might think that your only a few pounds over, that’s not enough to cause any problems. I’m only thirty something, I don’t need to see a doctor, I feel fine. Being heavy at any age can cause health problems. As a youth and being to heavy your heart will adjust and become larger to handle the extra demand for blood to be pumped to a larger area. But after a prolong amount of time your heart has to work harder to keep up. The extra work will take years of life away from you. Most extremely overweight people don’t live a normal lifespan. If your overweight or just heavy you might want to see a doctor and talk about your weight Overweight people who lower their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels could cut their risk of heart disease and stroke by more than half, a new study indicates. Researchers analyzed 97 studies that included a total of more than 1.8 million people worldwide. They found that high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels explain up to ha

Ways to Avoid Over-Exercises

Even in todays world were so many people are out of shape, some Americans actually exercise too much, which can be just as harmful, if not more harmful than not exercising at all. Most people are aware of the benefits of exercise — achieving peace of mind, managing weight, maintaining overall preventative health at any age name just a few. Unfortunately, however, many individuals who do exercise regularly are unaware of the dangers of over-exercising or over-training. If your watching reality shows on TV, it's easy to think that you can sweat off the weight. That might not be a good idea for you. Yes, exercise will help you lose weight, but if your a beginner exercising, you need to be careful. Training too frequently and/or too hard can create a variety of symptoms and issues. Short-term symptoms can include constant fatigue, elevated resting heart rate, a decrease in the immune system, an increased risk of injury and non-healthy weight loss. Long-term problems can include aut

All About Breakfast

How often have you heard that eating breakfast boosts your metabolism? It might seem logical that eating a meal first thing in the morning gets your metabolism revved up, but the fact is that there's no evidence to prove it actually does. In fact, scientists are clear about the benefits of breakfast and a boost in metabolism isn't one of them. Breakfast and Metabolism: Researchers agree that the science is inconclusive: there's no research showing a direct link between breakfast and a better metabolism. In a recent conference, members of the American Society for Nutrition met to discuss how eating frequency affects our weight. They evaluated a wide range of studies that investigated meal frequency, weight and metabolism. Their conclusion? Since eating habits are very hard to study, research hasn't been able to establish a clear link to an increased metabolism. In fact, they found no data to suggest that eating frequency, in general, has an effect on the calories we

DHEA SUPPLEMENTS

This is important to read, many of us have taken supplements to help lose weight and build muscle, but are we wasting time and money? And what are the dangers in using supplements. This is a combination of articles from the website WEDMD.COM Check out the site for many helpful tips on all general health problems. DHEA supplements are used by some people who believe they can improve sex drive, build muscle, fight the effects of aging, and improve some health conditions. But there isn't much evidence for many of these claims. And the supplements have some risks. Here's a rundown of what science actually knows about DHEA supplements and what you need to know about their safety. What Is DHEA? DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone produced by your body's adrenal glands. These are glands just above your kidneys. DHEA supplements can be made from wild yam or soy. Scientists don't know everything DHEA does. But they do know that it functions as a precursor to male a

CHANGE UP YOUR DIET

This author has nailed it for me. She says everything I wanted to say. Losing weight is all about changing the way your living and the food your eating. 5 Great Ways to Change up Your Diet You don't have to overhaul your entire diet to get a big health boost. Here are five simple changes you can put into action today for high-impact results. 1. Load Up on Fruits and Veggies You know fruits and vegetables are good for you, but did you know they should fill half your plate at every meal? That's what the the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends, and for good reason: Packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, fruits and vegetables make you less likely to get heart disease, high blood pressure, and some cancers. Your daily goal: 2 cups of fruit and 2.5 cups of veggies. Sound like a lot? "Think about eating them all day," says Cheryl Forberg, RD, author of Flavor First: Cut Calories and Boost Flavor. Top your morning eggs with salsa (yes, it counts!), lunc

Fat-Fighting Foods and Health-Boosting Benefits

I found this article in a health mag and I copied a portion for my blog. There are definite benefits some foods have and then there are foods with no nutritional benefits. I call these artificial foods. Artificial foods are the processed foods. Food that is made in a factory. Food that is made to look good and taste good but most often has no nutrition. Often when I'm at the grocery I'm tempted to buy a cake or donuts, maybe some crackers or canned soup. Not a good idea. There's nothing there but empty calories. Food cost too much today to be spending money on food that has no value. If you want to justify that grocery bill, look at each item before you buy it and ask yourself what good will I get out of this? I bet the grocery bill gets much smaller. Anyway read this article; Did you know that there is a particular family of vegetables that has more fat-fighting and health-boosting benefits than ANY other? It's true! We're talking about cruciferous vegetables

The Only Yogurt You Should Eat

Image
Did you know that almost ALL yogurts are flat out bad news for your waistline? "Light" yogurts, for instance, are absolutely terrible for you, and for more reasons that one. First, most "light" yogurts are loaded with artificial sweeteners and/or high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is one of the top 3 WORST ingredients you could ever consume. First, as it's name suggests, it's made of primarily fructose, a sugar that easily spills over to fat storage when consumed in sizable quantities. And artificial sweeteners are...well...artificial. Do you really want to put chemically altered, man-made ingredients that don't exist in nature into your body? Us either. Second, HFCS is made from genetically modified corn. Third, HFCS spikes blood sugar and insulin like almost no other food or ingredient.  Bad news all around. Bottom line, just because something is low calorie (i.e. "Light") doesn't make it a healthy choic

We need some exercise

Exercise is a big part of losing weight, but I don't mean you have to sweat it off. You can loss weight without any exercise just by maintaining a proper diet. But if you don't do some exercise half the weight you lose will be muscle. It happened to me, so if you want to look like a pear then don't exercise. But if you want to look like you did when you actually weighed 30 pounds less, then you want to do some upper body exercise besides walking. Generally, the oldest fat on your body is the fat thats the hardest to get rid of. But muscle will eat up fat, thats why people go on high-protein diets to lose weight. If you build enough muscle, the muscle will eat up the fat just to maintain. In another post I wrote that a stunt man that had the "perfect body" would cut back in the off-season but when he was getting back in shape for a movie he would eat protein and good fats to bulk-up for his role. If your going to build muscle you need to eat or have some fat so t

How To Stop Over-Eating

Did you know that most people fail to stick to their diet plans because of what I call “automatic eating”? That’s eating that seems to be outside your control, because it’s generated by the unconscious part of your mind. And what’s the main thing that stimulates this unconscious eating? STRESS. Here’s what happens in your body when you’re stressed: Your body makes WAY too much cortisol, the main stress hormone. Cortisol is helpful when you’re in a real fight- or-flight situation–but most of us make too much Cortisol ALL THE TIME. And guess what? Cortisol causes weight-gain (especially around the middle)–and it leads to many other SERIOUS health problems. To solve this problem, we need something that reduces stress and Cortisol levels. And, I’ve found it. I walk briskly or sometimes I use a stationary bike. You can use a treadmill. I do about 20 minutes and I can feel the difference in my body. Stress brought on by anger is different and don’t confuse them, the solutions are diffe

A Good Diet Is The Secret

I said before about stopping the way you eat and change. You’ve hear about the French and that the French have a diet that would put weight on any American, but their thin. The men and women of all ages in France are mostly thin. When we first looked at their diet we thought that the red wine they drank was the answer. These people eat out as much as we do, they didn’t even know what “low cal” meant until just recently. So how do they do it? Well first they walk more. City people don’t use cars that much, They walk everywhere. Also bike riding is more popular, gasoline has always been expensive in Europe and the people have learned to conserve. Conserving on food is something that France has done since World War II when food was scarce. So today their meal portions are smaller than ours and combine this with the increased amount of walking the French do and it’s much easier for them to control their weight. Now how does that help you? Well there are studies going on today that are dis
