Things That Affect Your Weight

Image
With a little bit of science, your “genetic makeup” plays the biggest role. These are the things we get from our ancestors. Colors of our eyes, our height, our basic body size, and weight, also the way our brain works, and the way our body stores fat. Now that last one is important if you want to lose fat. I’m talking about the way fat is distributed through your body. For example, if your mother was 18 to 20 years of age, she might have been slim but after having a child she started to put on pounds from her waist down to her knees. Then if you start to put on extra pounds you could do the same. Of course, that will depend on which parent you favor. Your bone structure is also genetic; if your mom and dad both had short legs then probably you also will. So you can see what I’m getting at. Losing weight won’t fix everything. So now we know we can’t fix everything, but we can lose excess fat. Your diet or in other words ( what you eat every day ) affects your weight and the amount of fa

What's The Best Time Of The Day To Exercise?

Image
Is there a best time of day to exercise? Two of the top reasons people give for not exercising regularly include lack of results and lack of time. So, for many people, the best time to exercise is the time that is most convenient and the time that fits into a busy schedule. Research on exercise and time of day is growing, but still limited and not without controversy. In general, if you can find a time for exercise that you can stick with consistently, you will be much more likely to train regularly and get better results. But if you're exercising to help you lose weight, what works for me, is to exercise in the morning before I eat. The science behind that is that it takes 10 to 12 hours after you stop eating for your body to use up the food that you ate the day before. So when exercising in the morning to get fuel your body has to burn body fat until you eat more food or drink more calories. Circadian Rhythms and Exercise Human sleep and wake cycles follow a daily cycle called ci

Can You Lose Weight Dieting Part-Time?

Image
From personal experience, that never worked for me. I could never give up eating the foods that made me gain weight. When I wasn’t dieting I’d go back to the same foods like pizza and burgers. You can’t eat pizza and burgers or any of the other high-calorie foods half the time and salads half the time and expect to lose weight. Among the many strategies for losing weight and aging well – following a low-carb diet, eliminating gluten, getting more exercise – there’s one that’s consistently recommended by researchers: calorie restriction. When you take in fewer calories than you require to maintain, your current body weight, you’ll lose weight. So what does that mean and how much is fewer? First, it doesn’t mean you have to cut the quantity, It means you have to eat foods that have fewer calories. Whole foods have fewer calories than processed foods. So, which ones are processed? I’m simplifying this because I have reads that are confused about what’s whole and what’s processed. Whole fo

The Best Snack Food, Nuts

Image
I found a great article about my favorite snack food. Reviewed by Brunilda Nazario, MD Once viewed by some as food too high in calories to enjoy on a regular basis, nuts are getting new respect. Two recent studies have touted the benefits of nuts for blood sugar control. One, published in Diabetes Care, found that eating pistachio nuts daily may help people at risk of getting diabetes control their blood sugar. A second, published in PLOS One, found that tree nuts — including almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, and pecans, among others — may improve blood sugar control in people with type 2diabetes. These are only a couple of many recent studies that point to the health benefits of eating nuts in moderation. What are some of the top health benefits of nuts, as found in recent research? Aside from helping with blood sugar, nuts have been linked with improving heart health and helping with weight control. A study from last year even suggested that eating nuts of any type may help you live lon

Exercise Will Reshape Your Body

Exercise alone doesn’t make you lose weight, in fact, exercise can cause you to gain weight. You have to diet. Exercise helps you to retain muscle mass. The object in losing weight is to lose the fat and lose inches. Checking the scale every day won’t help you lose weight. If your plan is working then you’ll lose inches and your clothes will begin to fit better and even become baggy. You’ll start to have more energy and you’ll actually become a happier person. Exercise does play an important part in a weight loss plan. Once you change the way you eat, start eating healthy foods and stop eating those foods and drinks with empty calories. Food and drinks that do nothing to help you lose weight are empty calories. Some people think they will lose weight by eating low-fat foods or diet foods in the grocery store that are low in calories, but this won’t help you. Prepared foods like TV dinners or ready-made sandwiches, frozen pizzas, and other already prepared foods even bread, or rolls are

Why Drastic Cut In Calories Is Harmful To The Body

Image
In our fast-paced society, the Very-Low-Calorie Diet (VLCD) is quickly becoming the chosen fad or method of weight loss. It even comes with a guarantee of shedding those unwanted pounds yesterday. Extreme measures of weight loss may be warranted and prescribed during a medical crisis. This would be understandable. However, applying drastic weight loss methods for the everyday person may not be safe or healthy. Many very-low-calorie diets (VLCDs) are now being covered by insurance plans. This has made it even more appealing for people to sign on the dotted line. Not usually understood is only part of the VLCD program may be covered by insurance. The diet shakes are the largest part of the VLCD and a costly pay-out-of-pocket product. Be cautious about any diet making unrealistic weight-loss claims. Extreme weight loss programs may severely restrict food intake and recommend drinking shakes in lieu of eating. Studies on very-low-calorie diets (VLCDs) do show rapid weight loss but not with

Do I Have To Count Calories?

Image
Everyone who diets knows about counting calories. The experts have been telling us forever that all we need to do to lose weight is to eat fewer calories. But is that all it’s about? If that’s all there is to losing weight why are so many people overweight? I know, maybe it’s all about carbs? Or they tell us we have to exercise more or your doing the wrong type of exercise. Not really, the whole idea of the low-carb diet was to get you to eat less junk food. Junk food or manufactured foods like you buy in a box in the grocery store is 90% carbs and has almost no nutritional value. But low-carb wasn’t the answer because you would cut back on junk for a while but never quit eating junk completely. And low-carb and low-fat foods usually have more sugar to put taste back in the food. None of that will help you lose permanent weight. So what is the answer to weight loss? I believe that all calories are not equal and that you don’t need to count calories, you need to eat better food. The Atk
