Food Blogger Urges Subway to Remove Chemical From Bread Subway says it's in the process of removing a chemical from its bread as part of an ongoing effort to improve its recipes. The announcement comes after a popular food blogger launched a petition this week asking the sandwich chain to stop using the ingredient, called azodicarbonamide. A representative for Subway says the change was underway before the petition was launched. "The complete conversion to have this product out of the bread will be done soon," Subway said in a statement, without providing further details. Vani Hari, who runs FoodBabe.com, has targeted other food companies including Kraft and Chick-fil-A for the chemicals in their products. In the latest petition targeting Subway, Hari noted that the azodicarbonamide used in its bread is also used to make yoga mats and shoe rubber. FDA WANTS TO UPDATE FOOD LABELS

Manufactures haven’t been realistic about portion size and have too much leeway when listing the amount of fat, salt and carbs. The FDA wants to make changes in the labeling and I think it’s about time. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the agency is working toward publishing proposed rules to update nutrition labels and serving size information. The agency says its aim is "to improve consumer understanding and use of nutrition information on food labels," according to the FDA. Nutrition labeling was introduced more than 20 years ago, and the FDA says the science and recommendations behind food labeling has changed since 1992. Do you remember your Grandparents?

I bring that up because eating those home cooked meals everyday and having dinner together every night was the best part of living at home. My grandparents lived with us and my grandmother did most of the cooking. What I remember is we ate meals together and we ate what was on the menu that day. What ever my grandmother made that day. This was in the 50's and early 60's which probably seems like a century ago to most people, but in fact most seniors grew up the same way. I lived in a suburb of Chicago called Elmwood Park, for those who haven't heard of it, we were next to Oak Park, Opra has a house in Elmwood Park among others. We had a grocery store close by with a meat market. The bakery was one block down. Fruits and vegetables were fresh everyday from nearby farms, nothing was packaged and they delivered your groceries if you asked. Most people didn't drive to the store. There were some restaurants in the neighborhood but not the number that you see today. We ate
