We all have spent the last few weeks on an eating binge. You can’t just give up because you gain some weight and blew your diet. Don’t think you're the only one who gained some weight lately. Anti-sugar fever seems to be on the rise. Especially now, since sugar has been linked to Cancer. Last week, a friend who does not have type 2 diabetes asked me about my diabetes diet: “How many carbs can you eat without raising your blood sugar?” Another pal is on a 21-day-cleanse – no sugars allowed. And folks in my neighborhood recently formed a support group for going cold turkey on sugar, which one member claimed is harder than giving up cigarettes: “No one wants you to smoke, but they’re happy to see you eat a slice of birthday cake.” This is a blog post from WebMD, but I want to stick my personal opinion in here. The chef who wrote this is a typical full-time worker who squeezes in family-time and a busy work schedule. The whole idea of 5 or 6 small meals a day is not a new concept. In some parts of the world this is the way they eat everyday. But because this country began as a country of mostly Europeans, we adopted their ways and in part we still do. The three heavy meals per day really became popular as the population became more industrialized. As more and more of the population worked in factories and other types of production jobs the 3- meal plan was adopted. Have Trouble Losing Weight?

Maybe it's time to do a little reading. I tried for more than 10 years to lose body fat and while I could lose weight, I couldn't keep it off. I spent years yo-yoing up and down. I'd lose a few pounds, sometimes even 20 pounds but after I few months I'd start to gain it back. I finally got tired of spending the money on gym equipment and low-cal frozen dinners. I wanted to find out how the body works and what I was doing wrong. I finally learned that if I wanted to keep the weight off I had to lose my body fat. Food is Health; Exercise is Fitness The way I see it is this; Food is Health, Exercise is Fitness. You need both. It's simple really. I wrote before about making a lifestyle change as a way to lose weight.  There has been much written about the Mediterranean Diet, it's not a real diet with set rules about your everyday meals. It's a lifestyle of eating the way Mediterranean people have been eating for centuries. On the front page of my website, I write about the Mediterranean lifestyle of eating in the diet section. This food pyramid shows you what to eat and drink and how often. You can find the food pyramid online. When I gave up on diet plans you buy in packets at the grocery store. And decided I wasn't going to sweat the pounds off. I read a book on the Mediterranean Diet and it all started to make sense to me. Is skipping breakfast really a big deal? What the difference? If your trying to lose weight, I think that breakfast is important. It all goes back to the basic reasons for eating. If you want to stay healthy, you eat for the sake of your body. In other words, I Eat first thing or the first hour I’m up to give my body the fuel I need to concentrate, to give me strength to workout or to get to work and to be productive. When I was younger, I didn’t think about those things. When I was younger I still had the stored up nutrition that all of us are born with, but as you age you use up that nutrition and you start to lose your edge. Your not as sharp. It happens over many years and most people don’t realize it until they’re in their 40’s.
