Pandemic Causing An Increase In Overweight People
It was great to take a break from that office routine and still have a job but there was consequences. We have more overweight people today in America then ever before. Some of these people have never been overweight before.
This alone can cause it's own health crisis. Overweight people can find it harder to find a job. Why, you might ask. Because they can use almost twice as much health benefits as the average employee. Why does that matter? Because most companies budget only a certain percentage for healthcare expenses and don't want to see that amount increasing. It's hard enough for companies to keep up with increasing costs of coverage, but then to add an employee with pre-existing conditions just adds a burden on the budget and can also affect productivity. It's a known fact that someone with pre-existing conditions usually needs more time-off for medical reasons.
With the percentage of overweight workers increasing it's no wonder that companies would rather hire young people straight out of school that are cheaper to insure and almost need no medical time-off. This type of employee can be more productive over a 5 year period with the same employer.
I know someone who has been teaching for a few years and had to spend more than a year teaching her students on-line. During the Pandemic she taught summer school at home, on-line and it did give her more time around the house. She used her extra time to research diet plans. She changed everything she was eating and started to eat "all natural". Fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and fresh cuts of meat, poultry, and fish. She weighed about160 before dieting and in a few months she weighed 125. One of the tricks was to stop drinking anything with calories and drink more water.
I know some people get sick of plain water and she did too. She would make a pitcher of water and put slices of cucumber, or slices of orange, or lemons in the water and keep the water in the frig. I thought the cucumber water was the best.
This si an example of how this woman made her life over during the pandemic. This fall and winter could be a repeat of last year. Use your free time wisely and make the changes you need to change your life. Turn this Pandemic time at home to become a student of weight loss and become a healthier version of you.
p.s. Don't forget the exercise.
