DO YOU WATCH DR. OZ?

Chia Seeds are a seed that the ancient Aztec’s ate for nutrition. The Aztec’s started farming Chia seeds about 3500 B.C. It actually grew wild but after discovering the benefits and the fact that it has a shelf life of two years they farmed Chia and eat the seeds on a daily basis. You see Chia was the food they needed for long journey’s and hunting trips. They would eat the seeds dry and then drink water. The seeds gave them the nutrition to keep going and would fill their stomach so they wouldn’t get hungry. You see Chia will absorb 12 times its weight in water and stick together like a ball to fill the stomach, but it will dissolve in the stomach the same as food and has several benefits. Naturally they brought other things to eat, but without a way to keep food fresh and the fact that some food is too hard to pack on trips, seeds, nuts and jerky are the only practical things to carry. After a few thousand years Chia just disappeared and other foods became more popular. Farming became more of the accepted way to get food. Growing food and raising livestock was a more popular way to live. I encourage you to google “history of Chia Seeds”. Just a tablespoon in a glass of water or juice or any liquid then wait a few minutes and you’ll see the seeds get bigger and then drink them and drink more water. You can eat them dry and then drink or mix them with food like I do. I mix them with my Yogurt in the morning. Chia has no taste. You can buy Chia Seeds at most grocery stores, any place that sells health foods. My local grocery store sells bulk seeds and nuts in bins and I can get Chia Seeds for about 10 dollars a pounds. Sounds like a lot but a pound of seeds lasts me about a month. Many South American countries grow Chia for export but Australia is the largest grower in the world and is trying to corner the market. Chia is a superfood that will become more important in the future. I eat several small snacks a day, no meals. I mix Chia seeds with peanut butter and put it on bread, or mix it with yogurt. I eat a tablespoon of Chia twice a day, usually mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Remember to drink water all day long, water works with Chia but also is important for anyone trying to lose weight.
