Fish Oil and Omega 3 Might be the most important things in your diet

Image
I'm not a big fan of supplements and this article is a good example why. I've always felt it's better to eat the food containing the vitamins or minerals rather than trying to use supplements to give you the nutrition your missing. This Doctor worries that we're paying for something we're not getting. I'm shocked, LOL. What new?   Dr. Phil Spiess, a board  certified physician says there's something rather disturbing about fish oil and krill oil supplements that I must share with you today.  You see, while Omega-3 fatty acids is  by far  one of the most important parts of your diet, and I think the best thing you could ever take for your health and longevity -- providing heart health, memory, focus, skin, joint, vision, weight management, mood enhancement, pain relief, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging benefits just to name a few -- what you probably DIDN'T know is that the vast majority of fish oil supplements on the market today are completely ineffect

Obesity And Heart Disease

Heart damage can occur in obese people without causing symptoms, and take place without other heart risk factors such as  diabetes ,  high blood pressure  and high  cholesterol , a new study says. The researchers said their findings about this silent heart damage challenge the common belief that the risk of  heart disease  in obese people is mainly due to diabetes and high blood pressure, which are common in obese people. " Obesity  is a well-known 'accomplice' in the development of heart disease, but our findings suggest it may be a solo player that drives  heart failure  independently of other risk factors that are often found among those with excess weight," said lead investigator Dr. Chiadi Ndumele, an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease. The study included more than 9,500 heart disease-free people, ages 53 to 75, in Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi and North Carolina who were followed for more than 12 years

You Need Vitamin D To Lose Weight, Who Know

Image
This is interesting, I just read that low levels of vitamin D in your system can actually keep overweight people from losing weight. O.K., we know now that we can get vitamin D from the sun, but that dark skinned people and even people with a dark tan won't absorb as much "D" as light skinned people. Vitamin D from the sun is a bonus anyway, the sun can't give you too much. So now your diet and supplements will become important. The body needs vitamin D, it's important for weight loss, but also helps to ward off a long list of diseases including cancer. So how do we put more vitamin D in our diet? Diary products and eggs all contain "D". Some fish and vegetables contain Vitamin D and supplements in the vitamin section of your drug store or grocery store. Food is really the best way for your body to absorb any vitamin. There are foods like salmon and egg yolks that contain "D" naturally and some like milk and cheese that are fortified with vit

What Is The Best Way To Lose Weight

Image
I’ve wrote about The Mediterranean Diet several times and I still think it’s the best way to eat. Yesterday I wrote about saturated fats and that minds are changing and that in moderation saturated fats aren’t harmful. Of course, everyone doesn’t go along with that, but most all research shows that the diet or the way people eat in the Mediterranean region of the world could be the healthiest diet. Inspite of body fat, these people have managed to avoid heart disease and any other types of coronary diseases. When your eating a Mediterranean style diet you won’t be counting calories. You’ll be swapping bad fats for good ones like olive oil instead of butter. Fish and poultry instead of red meat. Fresh fruit instead sweet desserts. You’ll be filling up on veggies and beans. You can snack on nuts instead of candy or chips.  The idea is to eat thinks that are nutritious, thinks that add value to your diet.  Stay away from processed foods. Eat real food and not manufactured food. It

Good for you: You’ve achieved your desired weight. Next up? Keeping it off. Yes, you need a positive attitude. The changes you made can stick. Most people who have lost weight put the weight back on, and that’s why they lose the willingness to diet again. Even those who diet again and again always seem to put the weight back. What Is A Healthy Weight?

Image
I don't have a simple answer for that question. A healthy weight for anyone is constantly changing. Being at a healthy weight is really about how much body fat you have. If your Body Mass Index is lower than 25 then you're at a healthy weight. Your Body Mass Index is an indicator of the percentage of body fat you have. Look up Body Mass Index on the web and there are several websites that will show you a formula to use to find your number. If your number is between 18 and 24 then you are at a healthy weight. If your number is more than 24, you're overweight. I'm not a fan of this way of measuring body fat. If you belong to a health club or know someone that can take you, they measure body fat with a caliper. You can even buy a "body fat caliper" on the web. I read somewhere that you can buy one on Ebay for about $8. A health club will measure you free of charge. So even if you and your friend are the same height your number can be different.
