Pros And Cons Of Weight Watchers

Image
Weight Watchers is one of the most successful and popular weight-loss programs on the market. But that doesn't mean it's for everybody. It's important that you consider all of the pros and cons of Weight Watchers and other popular weight-loss programs before you invest. Here are some important factors to consider before you decide if the diet plan is right for you. Weight Watchers Pros Does Weight Watchers really work? Many say that it does. Here are some reasons that the diet plan might be the best program to help you lose weight. First of all, Weight Watchers is like AA, yes, Alcoholics Anonymous and it does work because eating is a form of addiction. So I think it's important that before you signup you realize that you have a problem and you want to conquer the "food addiction". The Plan works something like this. No foods are forbidden.  There is no list of foods to avoid on Weight Watchers like you'll find on other diets. Instead, you count...

Live And Eat Healthy to Lose Fat And Weight

Do famous-name diets really work? There are plenty of famous-name diets for weight loss, but none stands out from the pack when it comes to lasting results, a new review suggests. Looking at a dozen clinical trials, researchers found that three big-name diets -- Atkins, Weight Watchers and the Zone -- were all "modestly" effective over the course of a year. In studies that compared the plans head-to-head, people lost anywhere from 4 to 10 pounds, on average. Meanwhile, a fourth commercial diet -- South Beach -- was no better than traditional advice to eat a low-fat diet, the study authors said. And in the few trials that lasted two years -- all looking at Atkins or Weight Watchers -- people often regained some of the pounds they lost. "From our results, no weight-loss diet came across as a clear winner," said study leader Renee Atallah, a research assistant at Jewish General Hospital/McGill University in Montreal. Atallah and her colleagues report the fi...

Changing Your Life To Lose Weight

Image
I can let you in on the ultimate secret for successfully making a change in your life. A century’s worth of psychological research reveals an interesting paradox in who we are. On the one hand, once we reach adulthood our basic personalities remain unchanged for the rest of our lives. We keep doing the same things—and feeling the same ways—over and over. But, on the other hand, every day we change our behavior drastically in response to different environments. Most of us are one person at work, for example, and another person at home. It is easier to change our environment than to change ourselves. So, if you want to change yourself, change your environment. Said differently: Whenever possible, don’t try to fight temptations – avoid them! The easiest way to make a change in your life is to modify the world around you in ways that will naturally drive you toward making, and maintaining, the change you want. There are many ways to change your environment, but let’s focus...

Tricks to Prevent Weight Gain Put Your Go-To Foods On Repeat Decide which healthy meals and snacks you love, then go ahead and eat them as often as you like. "Relying on the same nutritious foods over and over is an easy way to keep your weight steady because it takes all the guesswork out of the process. Plus, you're more likely to practice portion control with foods you eat all the time, research from the University at Buffalo shows. In the study, women who had macaroni and cheese daily consumed less of it over time than those who ate it just once a week. Researchers believe the novelty wears off when you eat a food daily, so you end up eating less. But don't confuse an eat-and-repeat strategy with being resigned to the exact same breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks every single day. Instead of a completely regimented (and boring) routine, simply have a rotation of foods that you enjoy, you know are good for you, and keep you satisfied and ha...

Is Salmon Healthy And Will I Lose Weight?

Image
By Lisa Lillien, a.k.a. Hungry Girl  This lady writes a great blog on healthy food so if you have a chance, check it out. This post is about Salmon and I'm a big fan, but you want to stick to "wild Salmon". It's low in mercury and has Omega-3 fatty acids which your body needs. Seafood has much more nutrition to offer the consumer than meat. We eat meat for the protein, but you can get protein from a variety of sources. Seafood had good fats that your body needs and meat has animal fat that your body doesn't want. Just feel all that stored fat around your waist. Some of it is from bread and other foods made from white flour and some of that fat is from the sweet drinks you consume but most of it is from animal fat that is marbled in meat. Fat that no one can trim out. Read up on seafood, some of it is better for you than others. I never eat fried fish in restaurants, grilled or baked is a better choice. I'm not a fan of farm-raised fish, I prefer wild. C...

Should I Weigh Everyday?

Image
If you are struggling with overweight or obesity, or otherwise would like to maintain your weight or prevent obesity, you may be wondering if it would be beneficial to weigh yourself frequently, and, if so, how frequently. Recent research has finally shed some light on this question. This is what I tell my clients. If you are someone who will frequently order the wrong thing and then think later that you should have ordered something else, then yes, weight yourself every day as a reminder that you're trying to lose weight and should be making smart choices. But If you're the type of person who becomes discouraged easily then don't weigh-in every day. I don't care what diet plan you choose you're not going to see the scale go down every day and you are probably not the type of person who forgets that they are trying to lose weight.  Benefits of Daily Weights A recent study has shown that weighing yourself daily—and then plotting your daily weights on a chart...

Staying Fit Over Forty

Image
This blog post spells it out. This doctor tells us what he does to live a healthy, fit lifestyle. Most professionals today are well schooled and not kids anymore. It takes a lot of education and a lot of money to rise up in your profession. Anyone who has 4 years of college and then 4 more years getting a post-grad degree knows he'll be working for a long time. My brother has a law degree and after many years in his own practice was asked to be a judge in the county where he lives.  He now hears mostly criminal cases and will probably work into his 70's. This isn't unusual, I know doctors and dentists that will do the same. Professionals have a lot of time and money invested in their career and simply working to 65 doesn't always work out. Today a professional or executive doesn't reach their earnings peak until later in life and then just to quit because you're 65 is pretty stupid. This blog is about a doctor who is staying fit to be able to continue with th...
