The Way Your Body Works

Image
I've written about this several times but only pieces of the whole picture. I want to explain the way I understand  how the body works. If you read between the lines you can see why you might be having trouble losing weight. The body is an ever-changing structure, it's really very complicated. Your blood has to feed and heal every part of the body. When you're born you receive nutrients from your mother and they're stored by the body for later. The body's most important function is to prevent you from starving. Now you have this excess nutrition the body has stored and this extra layer of what we call "baby fat" also for protection. So as the years pass we use up the baby fat but if you have been eating properly the body still has most of the stored nutrients.  We have to eat nutrients in our food to enrich the blood.  After eating and after the stomach processes your food, your Liver takes the nutrients from that food by separating it from the waste,...

Calories In, Calories Out, How Can I Keep Track?

Image
Some calorie calculators help you find out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. But what if you want to slim down? Then, what you really want to know is how many calories to lose weight? It's an easy process to get the right number. Just follow three simple steps. Then, you'll know how many calories to eat each day and how many calories you need to burn for weight loss. Step 1: Use a Weight Loss Calculator To get the best weight loss numbers, you should use a calorie calculator or a simple weight loss calculator. My favorite is the weight loss calculator at "Calorie Count". It's simple and easy to use. Use the Calorie Count Calculator The calculator will ask you a few questions about your activity habits and your goal weight in order to calculate the most accurate number. Be honest about your exercise and realistic about your weight. If you fudge the numbers, you won't get an accurate result.  It sounds easy, right? The fi...

Over 40 And Can't Lose Weight?

Image
This post is from VeryWell.com and points to a problem that both men and women have. When I was young enough to think that the age of 40 was prehistoric, I was convinced that the worst thing about getting old was becoming dull and boring - Having supper at 5:00, clipping toenails to the dusty voices of ancient news anchors on  60 Minutes , nagging people to put chew with their mouths closed and turn off the lights when you leave the room, for Pete's sake! Now, of course, I know what really happens when you get old.  Sure you get dull and boring (which probably isn't the case!), but something worse happens: Sudden, instant weight gain. It happens deep in the night, just after your 40th birthday. The Middle-Age Fairy creeps into your room and loads an extra 5 or 10 pounds right around your belly. This mysterious fat not only appears without warning, it's also immune to both diet and exercise. What happens to our bodies after 40 is a trifecta, maybe ...

How This Woman Lost 100 pounds

Image
I had to post this story for my readers who haven't read this before. Lacing up her shoes, strapping on her GPS watch, and heading out on a long run are things 26-year-old Rebecca, the blogger behind My Girlish Whims, has come to appreciate. In January 2014, it was a different story—she weighed 246 pounds, and running was something she avoided. But that month she booked a summer vacation to Jamaica and decided she wanted to shape up. “I didn’t want to go on the trip, come back and look at pictures from my fun tropical vacation and not be able to remember how much fun I had [because of my weight],” she says. Along with a healthy, balanced diet, one major change she made was she decided to start running regularly—even though she  hated  it. “I was the girl in high school who huffed and puffed around the track  every year  in gym class when we were forced to run one mile,” she recalls. These days, her trail runs and treadmill ...

Could You Be Addicted To Junk Food?

Image
You think that being addicted to food is just a myth? You think that it's only people without will-power that can't stop eating? Well, it's not a myth. I found this post in WebMd.com and thought I needed to reblog it. Many of us don't realize that the food cravings they have might be more than just a craving and that their overweight problem is not really their fault. Processed foods contain chemicals and if you eat processed foods all day, day after day, you can become chemical dependent or addicted to those chemicals. Remember that you might thing that the foods you're buying only contain salt or sugar but process food don't use real ingredients. They use a chemical substitute for salt and sugar, that why you see the word "sodium" on the label or artifical sweetner in place of sugar. Most all processed foods contain the same chemicals that are used to flavor and preserve the food. Small children can easily form a dependence to these foods and ca...
