Minimum Exercise For A Longer Life

Image
Physical activity promotes health, and for years, several public health bodies –- including the American Heart Association, US Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization –- have recommended getting 30 minutes of moderate exercise, 5 or more times per week. Surprisingly, though, only a couple of more recent major studies have examined how exercise relates to longevity, and how much you should do to lengthen your life. The research : In 2007, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) looked at more than 250,000 men and women between the ages of 50 and 71, and confirmed that the standard exercise recommendations did improve subjects’ longevity. An average of 30 minutes of moderate activity, 5 times or more a week, gave participants a 27% lower risk of dying during the study period, while more vigorous exercise (20 minutes, 3 or more times a week), dropped the risk of d...

Most kids and adults are overweight?

So how many are we talking about? In the U.S., over 200 million people are carrying too much fat. Most American men are "overfat," and most American women are not far behind, a new study says. Overfat refers to having excess body fat that can pose a threat to health. If so, you may be overfat. Excess body fat, especially abdominal fat, in...

Weight Loss And The Profiteers

I like this post and wanted to reblog it because some people are still under the impression that there's an easy, quick way to lose weight and it stays off forever. Wow, that really sounds great. Weight Loss is a "Billion Dollar Industry and they are not your friends. They want your money. You don't have to spend money. Losing weight, if done right, doesn't cost anything and you might even save some money. And you won't starve doing it. My e-book is a $1.99 investment and everything you need to know is in the book. A recent feature article in the  New York Times  chronicles the unfortunate fate of participants in  The Biggest Loser  after the spotlights dim, the TV cameras stop speeding, and some time goes by. They regain the weight. Some of it, most of it, all of it, or even all of it plus some. What the  New York Times  tells us is no surprise to those of us who have worked directly with severely obese patients over the years  that tho...
